The Things I'm Saying Hello To!

Since I have long belabored all the things I'm going to miss in the States, and all the preparation I'm doing to get to me Cape Town, how about a little preview of what I have to look forward to over there in South Africa? Here goes:

A FREE seven day trip to Paris to see my sweet and wonderful friend Emily who is currently living in Paris, working as a nanny. In order to get to Cape Town, I had to make a connecting flight somewhere in Europe, so a stop-over in Paris was the perfect way to take a small break between my old job and my new job! Looking forward to drinking good wine, seeing the sights and spending quality time with Emily!

A new job: Living Hope Community Centre's vision is to bring the hope and compassion of Jesus Christ to the chronically sick and dying in a holistic way and do all we can to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS. mission to spread the good news of Jesus Christ in a life-changing way and to encourage people to follow Him.

This view: You may start feeling sorry for me at any time.

A country with a complex history. I still have much to learn about it's culture and people:

Wildlife: And I do mean WILD!

Two words: CUTE African babies. This one is for you Kathryn Campbell & Casey Freeman.

Lots of wind. Like 40 mile an hour wind. All the time. I'm currently working on finding new hairstyles so this doesn't happen to me!

Driving on the left hand side of the road. God help us.

The Metric System: I've already downloaded several iphone apps to help me learn to convert all the medical numbers neccessary to take care of my patients and to know how warm/cool it is outside!

Rugby: No clue...

New friends: Courtney & Joey Lankford and their cute kiddos, who are also sent out from my church to work at Living Hope, and although we have never met, I'm hoping we become fast friends!

Also Danielle Schneider from BBC works with the Life Skills Education program and helped me lots in preparing to move over there!

A new disease. Since I've never worked with HIV/AIDS in any capacity, I have lots to learn!
A South African AIDS patient holds his antiretroviral medication.

A Cruiser Bike. They are all the rage. I'm somewhat stubbornly refusing to buy/rent a car. I'm going to see how long I can hold out. Pray for me. I have issues. I am cheap just like my Dad.

Hopefully that gives you a little picture of what's to come! Stay tuned for more!

I won't lie -- I'm pretty excited about the week-long stopover as well. YAY!! :)

Lady, ma'am. You knew the key to my heart in that photo. I can't wait to see thousands more where that came from!
