-Mom's Visit-

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mom and I had a great time while she was here in Cape Town visiting for six days in early July. Even though her visit was short we made the most of every moment! From the time she landed 'til the time she took off we were on the go, and talking our heads off. It really was a treat for here to be able to come all this way, and she really enjoyed being able to put faces to names and places to descriptions.  I was able to take a few days off while she was in town and show her the sites which was truly a treasure!

The weather was quite chilly and cloudy for most of the time she was here, but on her very last day the weather cleared for just long enough for us to get to the top of Table Mountain and for her to see the views. Just in time! We also took a very short, windy and cold walk on the beach but she did get to see it!

In our long drives and long talks, we marveled over the many places we have been together, and just enjoyed one another's company. Part of having your mom in town is just reliving shared memories. We spent 5 hours at tea, just talking about everything and nothing. Of course, half that time was spent trying to figure out which holiday we spent where, and what state we traveled to on that trip that one time and who exactly did that funny moment happen to.

She really enjoyed the history of Cape Town and asked lots of good questions. South Africa has one of the most complicated historys to explain and I highly reccomend reading and watching movies before you get here to help you absorb the culture.

One of her favorite things was the all day tour of Living Hope that I took her on. Living Hope has so many campuses and so many ministries that it is hard to picture all of it until you can see it for yourself! Just driving through a township gives you a good sense of what our work is all about. She got to meet all my coworkers, and I think it was special for her to be able to understand what my work life is all about. She is an offical fan now of LH, just like me.
For those of you that aren't on Facebook, here are some photos!

The furthest little bit of white sand curving out to the right, that you can see in the middle of this photo, is where I live!

Cold & windy!

The good ole USA is just 12,000km that way!

Big gerbil/mice/marmots called dosseys that live on Table Mountain.

Cape Cobras = Death. Just in case you can't understand this signage :)

I have no clue which mountains these are but they are pretty!

Jackass Penguins have a colony here and you can even swim with them!

Mom being oh so proper with a cup of tea

I loved having her here and can't wait until the next time she can come back!
